I think the best place to start with any project is at the beginning,
so let me tell you a little about who we are at Three Dogs. This project
started when Hubs commented that since our wedding was finally over but I was
still creating ‘stuff,’ perhaps I should consider creating an Etsy shop and
seeing if anyone was interested in my 'stuff.'
Oh, the wedding? Ohhh my, the wedding… it was AMAZING! On
Halloween no less we had an awesome little Steampunk party that just
happened to include our wedding on board the paddle boat of a local rivership
company here in Central Florida. (StJohnsRivershipCo.com – if you’re ever in
our neck of the woods, SO worth it!) Suffice to say, it was a fun affair with lots of flowers and
paper-crafting and costumes and ray guns and candy and satin and combat boots!
Did I mention the bridal entrance music was the Imperial March?
Anyway, so Hubs and I sat down and had a good chat about
what we’d like to see accomplished in a perfect world. We both enjoy creating -
I get an almost unholy glee from upcycling a found object, breathing new life
into something unused or discarded, or simply rescuing something wonderful from
the dusty bottom shelf of a thrift store. He enjoys his electronics and using
his old skills as a brewmaster – recently he built himself a 3D printer,
my laptop was hijacked for a robot brain, and he just graduated with his degree by building a radio-to-radio something or other. In
our day jobs, I am a nurse and he works with computers.
We also both
love animals and can’t say no to a rescue in need - which is probably why we've ended up with three dogs and two cats. The cats are fairly ambivalent about human interaction that does
not involve snuggling them, but the dogs enjoy being all up in pretty much
everything we do. (I even get an escort to... EVERYWHERE.... Yay! *sigh *)…. So
when you put all that on the table and talk about the future, you get a hot
mess that makes no sense. Awesome! I love it! And so Three Dogs was born.
I’d like to take a minute to introduce you to the rest of
the family before we move on to the fun stuff:
First, there is
Princess Sophia Marie Subtle Velvet Elvis Black German Shepherd Labrador – or
Sophia Marie for short. She is nine years old, and has been with me since I found her
at a shelter at 3 months of age. She is the house den mother, she would swim in
the pool all day long if we let her, and she tends to be a little grumpy from
time to time because of arthritis in her back. But she’s an amazing
collaborator and will always stop what she’s doing and bring you a toy when you
walk in our front door.
Next is Princess Ziva-Dog Sunshine, our 4 year old Husky mix. (Their names grow longer with age… )She has been
with us since Hubs found her on the street as a tiny puppy covered in mange.
She’s incredibly smart, absolutely devoted to her daddy, and enjoys digging in
the yard. She loves to run on the treadmill and to talk, although I’d probably
be happier if she didn’t vocalize quite so much – or at least if she didn’t
sound like a deranged hyena all the time… She is also an incredible collaborator,
and her advice is usually, “Let me go sit in the sun in the hole I’ve just dug
and think about it some.”
Last but not least is Princess Abigail Pretty Pants.
(Yes, I know, I know. The Abby/Ziva connection was not intentional, although it
probably isn’t coincidence that NCIS is my favorite show, for the little television that I end up watching.) Anyway, Abby is just barely a year and a half old, and she’s been
with us 9 months. Our friends found her wandering in the street but they
already had two large dogs and she was already 70lbs at 9 months old. I’d like to say that she’s a good collaborator but right now she’s just
really happy to be here. Every day is BEST DAY EVER! Every treat is BEST TREAT
EVER! Quite frankly, she renews my faith in all that is good in the world, and
that is the energy I want to help put back out into the cosmos.
